FRENCH after-school classes for primary school children in Wicklow and Arklow

Classes are held in local parish centres, community centres, in a school premises or in the tutor’s home. More centres can be opened depending on interest. Parents please talk to your school or nursery if you would like classes to start there!

SMALL CLASSES

In a centre, we need a minimum number of six to 8 pupils to run a class.

In the Wicklow Classes however, I can offer smaller classes with a minimum number of 4 pupils and max of 6.

This ensures that your child gets as much individual attention as possible.

Why study a language?

We have found from experience that children starting their language learning at the age of 4 or 5 are more successful than children starting at the age of 8 or 9 and those starting at 8 or 9 are more successful than children waiting until secondary school before they start learning a language.

At a young age, children are very receptive to new sounds, less inhibited and quickly become confident and at ease with the foreign language they are learning. Extra knowledge a child takes in, can develop an increase in self-esteem and a better understanding of the world around them

COURSES

There are several courses available with La Jolie Ronde, depending on the age of your child. Below is a summary of them, alternatively you can look at the La Jolie Ronde website to find out more – www.lajolieronde.ie . All the classes run for 40 minutes

Les Aventures de Minou et Trottine et les saisons

This course is geared for young beginners – 4 to 7 year olds
It would suit junior and senior infants.
It introduces the vocabulary through rhymes, chants, songs, stories, puppets and activities suitable for this age group.

Salut Céline et Antoine

This course is a starting point for 7 to 8 year olds
It is a reintroduction of the core vocabulary for those who have completed Les Aventures.
The course suits 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes.
Core vocabulary is introduced/recycled and the beginnings of grammar with flashcards, games, short role-plays, songs, reading, listening and copying activities.

Bonjour la France!

This course is a starting point for 8 to 11 year olds and a follow-up for Salut.
The course would suit 4th, 5th and 6th classes. It introduces/revises core vocabulary and offers optional extension vocabulary through songs, games and activities appropriate for older children.
Opportunities for reading and writing are extended and creativity in adapting longer role-plays encouraged.

Mon Tour de France

This course is for pupils ages 10+ who have prior learning or who have completed Bonjour and is not suitable for beginners.
It has an adaptable course framework and resources for each individual class. It revises previous and introduces further vocabulary using extended role-plays.
It develops listening comprehension, reading and writing skills and encourages the creative use of the language in all skill areas.
